Extreme Home Makeover, Dominican Style
November 2006

If you have ever watched the popular TV show about extreme home makeovers, you realize that sometimes the best thing you can do is start from scratch! That was certainly the case for Amable Rodríguez and family in November 2006. Amable is a member of the church in La Romana and the single Dad for his three lovely daughters, Paula(15), Nairobi(12) and Raquel(8). They have lived for several years in a house made from roofing tin pieces.
Northeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY is concerned about impacting the lives of the people in La Romana and committed to this makeover in early 2006. They had an arquitect draw up the plans for  simple, two bedroom home. The Dominican team was able to dig the footing and pour the floor before the US team arrived on Nov. 4th.
The 26-member team came ready to work and worked hard all week long to lay all the blocks and get the trusses made and up and the roof on before they left on the 11th. They also left enough funds to finish the plastering and install all of the plumbing and electrical fixtures. Amable’s family now has a lovely home with an indoor toilet, the first one their family has ever had! The church had a joyous celebration as the leadership blessed the home with prayers of gratitude. Thanks Northeast for your wonderful help!
